and the next concern will be later tonight, when these temperatures that are above freezing drop into the upper 20's to lower 30's. the slush and mush and water could re-freeze. as far as our timeline, precipitation pattern over the next hour two will come to an end. we will remain cloudy throughout the night. temperatures will continue to drop below freezing by morning. we will continue to keep you updated. a look at thanks giving weather and well beyond inner forecast in just a few minutes. >> today's weather was a change from the 70's we saw earlier this week. in the mountains off to the west, it is still coming down pretty hard. we said brad bell north and west today. he's joining us live from hancock. hey, brad. looks beautiful out there. >> thank you, leon. i think it does look spectacular out here. we went looking for snow today, and this is where we found it.

we had to get just passed hagerstown before we really started seeing snow accumulating. here in hancock, they never really had any rain. it was snow from the outset. it is about four to five inches. i have seen cars with more on top than that. packing snow, stuck to everything, stuck to the trees. that is what makes it so pretty. take a look out onto main street. they are down to their payment -- bare pavement because they have been working all day long to get that progress. on the main roads, i-70. we have seen conditions very throughout the day. from slushy to clear to snow-covered. there was at one point a shutdown of i-70. i want to show you one more thing. it is a beautiful site. that bridge, absolutely gorgeous. they're going to have a white thanksgiving in hancock. back to you. >> thanks, brad.

enjoy it. >> winter wonderland. one of our producers shot this video this morning in alexandria, not far from the mark center. not much was sticking inside the beltway today. in linden, virginia, a completely different story tonight. >> it is certainly gorgeous out here and beautiful as you can see, around may, with all these trees and branches covered in white. it has been dicey. this road was an absolute disaster earlier in the day. it is a fairly well-traveled road between warring county and the fauquier county line. there is a lot more ice. there is a lot more snow. these folks are stopping on the side of the road. i'm going to show you the problem. , cars were ago crashing left and right. this is a mercedes that flipped

over, when off the roadway, flipped over. fortunately, no serious injuries. there were a couple more that went off the roadway. we talked about tow truck drivers here in the area and law enforcement that had to shut down this road for a certain period of time so they could get the sultan plows up here. the snow came down very fast. the truck and plows up here, things were moving better. coming up at 5:00, we will show you even more damage. >> wow. dramatic indeed. interesting. the storm is not just hitting here, it is stretching all the way up the eastern seaboard into new england. that left plenty of flights canceled or delayed today. some airports in the new york area were in a ground stop until a few minutes ago. coming up at four: 30, we will go to dulles international airport to clear up. stay ahead of delays and cancellations and show your

representatives of the barry family laid out three days of events to honor the former mayor. his closed casket will lie in repose in the wilson building thursday, december 4. friday there will be events that will have his body moving through all eight words of d.c. -- wards of d.c. the funeral and viewing on saturday the sixth. barry andanners say already outlined much of what he wanted. >> investing in six really difficult because -- it has been really difficult because when someone leaves directives, and you are in shock and mourning the loss, it's very difficult to look down on a piece of paper and try to move forward without becoming very emotional. plan,for why barry had a she said the last january -- he was extremely ill. she said at that time he thought he might not make it out of the

hospital and started making his funeral plans. he recovered then, and when he died over the weekend they still had the old plans and so they are trying to follow them. reporting live from the john wilson building, sam ford, abc 7 news. >> supreme court justice ruth badernsburg -- ruth ginsburg is recovering from heart surgery. doctors discovered the blockage in her right coronary artery. the 81-year-old was rushed to the hospital last night after experiencing discomfort during a workout. ginsburg expects to be back on the bench on monday. >> today protesters forced their way into city hall in st. louis. outside, hundreds took part in a mock trial of police officer darren wilson. marci gonzalez picks up the story from there. >> today more protests. demonstrators tried to charge into st. louis city hall. police arresting at least three people. >> this crowd is a little edgy.

of violence in ferguson. although last night's demonstrations were not nearly as distracted as the night before, there were at least 45 arrests in ferguson last night. police and the national guard for they are prepared for the potential of more problems tonight. martha gonzalez, abc news, ferguson, missouri. >> video of the moments before an officer's involved shooting in cleveland that ended the life of a 12-year-old boy. police released time lapse surveillance video to show the 12-year-old holding what officers believed at the time was a gun. it turned out to be a pellet gun. police say that rice was told three times to surrender, but refused. rice's family ok this video release. >> in the last hour, abc news learned that a missing restaurateur has been found. we heard earlier in the day that b. smith had not been seen since thursday in new york. she revealed earlier this year that she has alzheimer's.

grass. the travel lanes very much visible. we are heading even further north into montgomery. the snow gets deeper. slippery conditions giving to what payment on i-270. big getaway on i-95. look at that big red line heading southbound. long stretches of volume. coupled with the weather. let's hope -- let's head over to route 50 by the bay bridge. traffic't run two-way on the bay bridge, hence the delay that starts at the severn river bridge. center.ffic >> welcome back from buffalo. let's get started. really nice elements to describe the snow. this is the riverbend golf and country club this morning around 7:00. during the day, snow clouds moved in. it turned into a very pretty afternoon. a little further north and west, a lot more snow. at this hour, the snow is pushing eastward. this is the bottom end of the storm. we are analyzing a lot of rain. wet snowd be sleet or or heavy rain. this is all snow coming to the mature area. stripes of blue showing heavier elements. most temperatures are above freezing. most of it should melt in the metro area. this is the whole storm. right at the southern edge, pushing the heavy snow inland

and heavy rain along the coast. that will continue through the evening hours. steve rudin with us now to share some great pictures. >> the jackpot area, berkeley spring, west virginia -- parts of west virginia upwards of a during 14 inches of snow the overnight and during the daytime hours today. his is from robert washington, potomac falls. a little bit of snow on the pavement. none of that is going to cause significant travel delays for them in potomac falls. take a look at these snow totals across the region. they were impressive. they came in with 12 inches of snow, frostburg at five inches. we have four inches in woodstock. damascus, reporting in a little over an inch. doug? >> we continue to watch the store move away from the area. as it does, it's going to take the precipitation with it. we think the futurecast has a pretty good handle on. as we get through the night

tonight, the storm will move out and all precipitation will end. thisg the day tomorrow, storm system will pass to the south of the metro area across the virginia-north carolina border. we may see a few passing rain or snow showers. as high pressure builds back, we may see a little bit of sunshine break during the day as well and in high pressure takes over and we are going to have a very fine friday, saturday, and sunday here. watch for that isolated wintry mix. thanks giving forecast looks fine otherwise, and through the day friday, saturday, and sunday. a slow warming trend. comesxt cold front through on tuesday. a chance of a few scattered showers. >> it will get out of here just in time for the weekend. good. thank you. >> is not going to be a particularly happy thanksgiving for some retail workers this year. they are going to be working as stores try to get a jumpstart on folks looking for black friday

>> 7 is on your side with a consumer alert. it sounded like the perfect investment opportunity, by distressed properties. unraveled and investors lost millions. this is thomas evans, an official say this is what he promised his wealthy investors they were buying into. >> it was buying distressed properties and he was going to renovate the units, have them leased, and then sell the property at some point at a profit for his investors. >> investors thought they were

buying into newly renovated apartments with pools and sculpted gardens and the promise of a handsome return once they sold. while recruiting investors, evans was also taking out construction loans to begin renovations, but the project soon hit a snag. >> at some point he started realizing he was not going to be ate to run these apartments enough of an income to support his debt. >> instead of telling investors, authorities say he chose to falsify documents and his investors -- if investors asked questions, he simply lied. weren't reallys sure what was going on, so they went to visit the properties and found that the properties were in a horrible state of disrepair. the renovations that he promised , andwere not being done there was no possible way that he was getting the occupancy rates that he was telling them he was getting. >> in the end, more than 50

>> you're watching abc 7 news at 4:00, on your side. >> you may have seen little wayne today. -- seen a little rain today. >> as temperatures start to fall, will we see ice out there? that is the big question. doug hill is tracking our chances of ice out there. >> is a pretty good possibility as we head through the overnight hours. 35 degrees in arlington. let's check this no progress in the rain progress on our abc 7 live super doppler 7 snowmachine. the areas of snow are highlighted in white and blue, blue the heavier bands. the final bans approaching the metro area now.

it all eventually changes to rain by the time you reach the bay and southern maryland. the pattern will move out during the evening hours. this is one of our hd cameras from our been a be -- army navy country club in fairfax. inch ofalking half an snow in fairfax. the high relations received the most. as far as rain goes, springfield almost an inch and a half of rain. temperatures now just barely above freezing. all the slush and mush and water, we will have probably the a chance to -- plenty of chance to re-freeze during the evening hours. 14 inches of snow in french burg, west virginia. the higher the elevation, the more the snow. that's what we expected and the store behave nicely. a few slick spots in the overnight hours, 26 to 33 degrees by tomorrow morning.

maybe a passing rain or snow shower for thanksgiving day. of sunshine at times as well. steve rudin and i will look through the weekend in more detail for you in a couple of minutes. >> for those who are flying today, some of them saw their flights delayed by as much as six hours. >> in new york, a ground stop was just lifted at laguardia airport about half an hour ago. passengers heading to destinations such as charlotte also ran into problems. stephen tschida visited two of our local airports today. at reagan national, we are fighting a lot of people scrambling, trying to come up with alternate tickets, trying to get on flights to get them to the thanksgiving destinations because the weather has caused this rash of cancellations. the wicked weather made a mess of some holiday travel plans. >> looks like i'm delayed. those airline passengers whose flights eventually took off, there was always that problem of potential missed connections.

hashe weather outside today not given drivers any favors on the roads. >> horace holmes started his day by driving up i-95 south of the delaware border and now he is trying to get home. he joins us live with a glance at the holiday travel. how is it looking? >> not too good out here. we left the station around noon to make it to the maryland-delaware line. it took us three and a half

hours to get there, and we are making our way back. we are near bel air, and the closer we get to baltimore, the heavier the traffic is. if we look at our traffic tracker camera, you can see the traffic in front of us. we are moving. that is good news. but it's very heavy out here, and we are getting very strong rain. as we get closer to delaware, we were seeing very heavy snow, big snowflakes coming down. we got down around the perryville area and it started to turn to rain. are cautious. as you can see, in both directions going 95 south where we are going in on the opposite side going northbound, the traffic is heavy. we are going to continue to make our way, see how far we can get to the newscast. we will be checking back in with you periodically. horace holmes, abc 7 news. >> never want to sugarcoat anything. doesn't look good.

they have added several more inches of snow. a very picturesque image here, as we get ready for thanksgiving. many areas, there's a lot more snow on the ground than that. just a taste of the numbers for you, cumberland, six inches. chantilly, half an inch. inch and about an half out of washington-dulles. radar goes, weer are continuing to track the precipitation. this is only over 20 minutes. you get the feel of the motion to the east and northeast. the tail end of the storm is moving up the coast. rian across the bay -- rain across the bay. snow to the west, and still some moderate bending of snow, which often happens right near the edge. another hour or so, these heavier bands coming through.

with temperatures above freezing, a lot of it will melt on contact. a couple of exceptions, as the snow falls, it cools the air. as soon as the snow stops at dulles, the temperature will bump up a degree or two. once the storm is out of here, just about everybody will drop below freezing. our concern will be a brief freeze, icy spots where we have slush and mush in standing water. this is projected overnight lows, frederick two men. footie nine entries. 32 downtown. icy spots a definite concern as you head out tomorrow morning. the whole package with the storm, the storm will move just to the oust -- east of the delmar peninsula. we are going to see the precipitation come to an end, and then we will see cloudy skies, colder temperatures overnight. tomorrow we will deal with this upper level feature here.

our futurecast tracks it to the south of the area. the possibility of a couple regular snow showers. it looks like this model has it figured out. prettyturn out to be a nice thanksgiving day. once we get past thanksgiving day, take a look at what we have to offer in our seven-day. be in the low 40's, but we will have sunshine and clouds over the weekend, partly cloudy. 56 on sunday and monday. when the next weather system arise tuesday with clouds and just a chance of a few showers. >> just got to get through today. >> yes, ma'am. >> folks have got to get through this comute. -- commute. dave, how's it going? >> we are looking at heavy traffic heading towards the bay bridge. they can't run two way traffic on the westbound with the weather as it stands. only two lanes, everyone tried to get to shore. the big focus, i-95.

a lot of folks from new england south into virginia and piling up in long stretches of volume. we can show you some taillights here. towards dale city and dumfries, this is an example of what it looks like on one small stretch of i-95. lots of clear on the pavement. -- glare on the pavement. at least weatherwise, things are starting to taper off a little bit. temperatures, we will look for re-freezing and some of those spots. -- in some of these spots. wtop traffic center. >> things, dave. coming up, the government wants to help you with your thanksgiving turkey. >
